1. how will i receive my shortlisted and final photographs?

You will receive the files within 3-4 weeks of your session. You will receive all of the files via wetransfer, which is an easy + free email service. You can then send them to print, forward them to your friends + family, and post them online!

The download links expire after a few days, so be sure to download your images ASAP!

Make sure to save + back up your images. I clean out my client files every few months and cannot guarantee that I will have backups for your shoot.

2. when will i receive my final photographs?

You will receive the edited files within 3-4 weeks after shortlisting your photographs, keeping in mind you have cleared the payment in full.
Your final photographs will be sent via wetransfer, which is an easy + free email service.

3. do i get to select all the images?

Part of my job is making the image selects and choosing the most flattering photographs. The images I do not deliver are either repeats, blurry or out of focus, shots of you blinking or mid-sentence speaking. I have no reason to withhold any images if there are additional ones i think you would enjoy! Rest assured, you will get the best images from the event.

4. what if i want more edited images than offered in the package i choose?

My work is divided into to two Parts: Photography and Editing. Each Photograph requires hours of tedious editing and fine tuning prior to the final photographs. The packages offer you limited edits as per the basic requirements of majority of the clients. You could always ask for more edits, keeping in mind each edit costs an additional $25.

5. what if i want to book you for a longer period than the package?

Each hour consists of hundreds if not thousands of clicks, which eventually impacts the life of my equipment.

I charge additional $300 per hour.

6. i am a little tight on my budget can i still be accommodated?

Of course! I would hate to send you back, Contact me and let me know what you have in mind. If my schedule allows - I might be able to accommodate you!

7. can i get an album or hard copies?

If you require hard copies or an album, please let me know prior to your shoot so that you are charged accordingly. There are additional charges for albums.

8. how can i get a discount?

You can unlock discounts on double bookings, referrals, or if you have a seasonal discount code.

9. will i get all the images from the shoot/event

You pay for a limited amount of photographs, as per the package you've chosen. Unedited/raw images are not included. However, if you need all the unedited photographs from the event please let me know prior to the event so that I can give you a better quotation of your package that includes the raw footage.

Estimate: 10 extra unedited images for $200

NOTE: You can not change your package at the last minute (for example: wanting all unedited images from the event instead of the limited edited images from that package that are paid for)

10. how do i know my booking is confirmed?

60% non-refundable advance payment is required to secure your session date + time, at least 3 weeks prior to the shoot. Followed by the remaining 40% upon delivery of shortlisted images. Once you’ve deposited the amount you will receive an email with an invoice confirming your deposit and booking

PLEASE NOTE: If you book a shoot with less than 1 week's notice, then a 100% non-refundable advance payment is required to secure the session date and time.

I do not write anything down in my calendar until the deposit has been paid, making your desired time slot up for grabs.

11. what happens if you need to cancel/the weather is whack?!

If the weather is crazy/act of God/fall sick/etc, you can put your deposit toward a re-schedule or you can have it refunded, so long as you cancel within 30 days before the shoot. However, if you cancel less than three weeks left to your booked session or if you don’t show up to the session, the deposit will not be refunded.

12. why do i have to pay a deposit?

The purpose of the deposit is to lock in your date + time with all the photographers you need. If you cancel last minute, I still have to pay other photographers and could have booked someone else during that period. Nothing is booked until the deposit has been paid.

13. are there any additional charges not covered in the package price?

The prices for the listed packages primarily cover the photography and/or videography services. However, they do not include travel, commute, or accommodation expenses for shoots outside of my base city. Any such additional costs will be communicated and agreed upon prior to booking confirmation.

How long does it take to do family portraits?

Discover how long it takes to create timeless family portraits. Explore factors like family composition, session types, and weather conditions that influence the duration. From mini sessions to family films, find the perfect option for your cherished memories. Contact us to schedule your session today!

Family portraits are a timeless way to preserve precious memories and celebrate the bond shared among loved ones. From toddlers giggling to grandparents sharing wisdom, each member contributes to the story captured through the lens. But have you ever wondered how long it takes to create these enduring portraits?

The duration of a family portrait session can vary depending on several factors, each contributing to the overall experience and outcome. Here, we explore these factors to help you understand what to expect when scheduling your family photo session.

Composition of the Family:

One significant factor influencing the duration of a family portrait session is the composition of the family itself. A small nuclear family may require less time compared to a large extended family gathering. Moreover, the age range of family members plays a crucial role. When there are young children or elderly family members involved, additional time may be needed to ensure everyone is comfortable and cooperative.

Quantity and Quality:

On average, a standard family portrait session aimed at capturing around 20 high-quality images may take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. However, this timeframe is merely an estimate and can vary based on individual circumstances. For instance, if there are restless toddlers or elderly relatives who need breaks, the session may extend beyond the initial estimate.

Weather Conditions:

Another factor to consider is the weather conditions on the day of the shoot. Extreme temperatures, whether hot or cold, can affect both the photographer and the clients. Taking breaks to cool down or warm up may be necessary, thereby potentially prolonging the session duration.

Specialized Shoots:

Certain types of family portrait sessions, such as pregnancy shoots or newborn baby sessions, often require more time and attention to detail. These moments are unique and require patience and flexibility from both the photographer and the clients. It's advisable to consult with your photographer beforehand to understand the specific requirements and anticipated duration for such specialized shoots.

Varieties of Family Portrait Sessions and Timeframes:

When it comes to capturing the essence of your family, there's a range of portrait sessions available, each tailored to different preferences and requirements. Here's an overview of the types of shoots I offer, along with their typical durations:

Mini Session – 15-20 Minutes:

Mini sessions are ideal for marking milestones or updating family photos without committing to a full session. Lasting between 15 to 20 minutes, these sessions focus on quick yet meaningful snapshots. They're especially suited for families with young children, considering their shorter attention spans. If there are sessions before or after yours, I ensure to buffer our time slightly to avoid anyone feeling rushed.

Full Session – 30-45 Minutes:

For a more comprehensive family portrait experience, opt for a full session. Typically lasting between 30 to 45 minutes, these sessions provide ample time for everyone to relax and get comfortable. We often schedule full sessions during the golden hour sunset, when lighting is perfect. However, I'm flexible and attuned to your family's dynamics, adjusting as needed.

Family Film – 60-90 Minutes:
Family film sessions offer a deeper dive into storytelling, capturing authentic moments and emotions as they unfold. Lasting between 60 to 90 minutes, these sessions may vary based on the flow of the day and activities we engage in. Whether at your home or a scenic location, storytelling takes time, and I prioritize an unhurried approach. During these sessions, we take breaks, share meals, and fully immerse ourselves in the experience.

No matter which session you choose, I aim to create a relaxed, enjoyable experience true to your family's story. If you're ready to capture your family's essence in stunning portraits or heartwarming films, get in touch today to schedule your session. Let's work together to preserve your cherished memories for generations to come.

In conclusion, while the average family portrait session typically lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, various factors can influence the actual duration. To ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience, communication with your photographer is key. By discussing your family's composition, preferences, and any special considerations, you can work together to create timeless portraits that you'll cherish for years to come.

Prepare for your upcoming photo shoot

Feeling nervous about your upcoming photo shoot? Relax, you're in good hands! I'm Basmah Masood, and I'm here to guide you through every step of preparing for your special day. From choosing the perfect, weather-appropriate outfit to mastering those photo-ready poses, I've compiled essential tips to ensure you feel confident and look your best.

So you have an upcoming event or special occasion, and you have booked a photographer to capture your moment.
As the day gets closer, you are getting increasingly anxious about the photoshoot. You have so many questions in your mind, and you don't know how to control your nerves.

Well, don’t worry. I got you! I work with families and brands every day, and let me assure you, everyone feels the same way.
I have put together some valuable tips to think about before your shoot. Trust me, some planning will make you feel super confident in no time. Let’s start. shall we?

  • Get your outfit Weather-ready

I am sure since this is a special occasion, you already have an outfit planned. But in case you don’t, right now is an excellent time to plan out your outfit. A key point to consider is: What will the weather be like? It’s essential to dress comfortably. Imagine wearing a dress in San Francisco in the summer. HAH! a rookie mistake!
The point is, to dress comfortably according to your surroundings. If you are shooting in a location where you have never been before, ask your photographer and maybe check the weather app.

  • Pick the right outfit

When you look your best, you also feel your best. If this is a special occasion, definitely think about what types of outfits suit you and what type of colors go with your skin tone. Confused? ask your photographer to guide you and help you pick the right colors.
Lucky for you, I am obsessed with color theory and I will be more than happy to help you pick the right outfit and be super excited about it.

  • Clean up

While most photographers are part-time magicians, sometimes the magic doesn’t happen. The camera picks up every detail, so if you can fix things beforehand, this is the time to do it. Iron your clothes, polish your shoes, thinking of getting a haircut? SCHEDULE IT RIGHT NOW! Trust me you won’t regret it.

  • Poses

Okay, so you have everything figured out except you think you are an awkward poser and you think you are not photogenic. WRONG! Posing is a skill that can be learned with time. Sure, some people are naturally photogenic, they do everything right without even knowing. Who says you can't? Fake it! I will help you.
I have so many resources that I have collected over the years to help you pose and prepare for the shoot. Want to know a secret?
Most photographers, including me, are awkward posers but we know how to fake it, and I will guide you and wont finish the shoot until you are satisfied. The key is to find a photographer you can be comfortable around.

  • You got this

If this is your first shoot then I don’t blame you for feeling stressed out. It’s scary not knowing how it’s going to turn out, but let me assure you it is not as jarring as you think it is. It all boils down to those few minutes and if you find the perfect chemistry with the photographer, you will be amazed at how many photos you can get. The photographer is your friend and only wants great photographs as much as you. If you guide the artist and explain your vision beforehand, then I assure you, your shoot will be amazing! You can book a free 15-minute consulting session with me and discuss all your concerns.

Lastly, don’t forget to be yourself and have fun! The camera only catches what you show it.

Still, have some questions and need help?

Why do creators create?

Creating content for yourself. VS. Creating content for the sake of more followers are two approaches to running a blog. ⁣

Creating content with the intention of growing more followers, is nothing but a downward spiral. Since your ability to create better content becomes contingent on your growth. ⁣

Like everything else in life: what goes up, must come down.
Similarly, when you stop growing or become stagnant, your ability to create quality content becomes terribly compromised by your demotivation caused by low followers and engagement. ⁣

Truth be told, a requested shout out will not give you the same level of gratification that you have been searching for. ⁣

You know the endorphin rush you get when you win a game? That's the kind of feeling you get the moment you get a shoutout when you least expect it. Don't force it. Let it happen organically. ⁣

Trust yourself and your timing in life. Don't be so hard on yourself. Good things come in small doses and at their own pace. ⁣

Like-minded people will find you eventually. And you'll see that it's better to have people follow you for your content instead of being asked to follow you. ⁣

Learn to appreciate yourself and the value you add to your own brand.⁣

Your work should speak for itself.⁣

Once you'll understand this, you'll begin to see that you don't need to waste your energy slidding into DMs and having awkward conversations just for a shoutout. You don't need validation from others. ⁣

All you need, is to be consistent with your work and honest with yourself. ⁣

And time will take care of the rest.

I’m loving memories of my Hero

A tribute to my nana, who I loved to the moon and back.

My Nana’s first and Pakistan’s first passport.

My Nana’s first and Pakistan’s first passport.

Roughly five months ago my hero left this world and moved on to his final destination. I miss him terribly every single day, so much so that my heart still aches from his absence.

A couple of weeks ago, we were cleaning out his stuff and we found his first passport. Which also happens to be the first Pakistani Passport. Will you believe me if I told you that it was issued in Dacca in 1947!? A little history - Nana’s father passed away a couple of months before he was born and so he was raised by a single parent. After struggling for 15 years in school and college due to Hindu-Muslim discrimination, he realised that Bihar wasn’t the best place to be living in for Muslims. While he had been thinking about this for years, he heard about Mohammad Ali Jinnah and his party - Muslim league which was fighting for a separate homeland.

At the meagre age of 15, he couldn’t contribute much to the party but had decided that if a separate homeland were ever to be made he would be the first person to drop everything and move to Pakistan. And so it happened, 2 years later in 1947.

Following is an excerpt from an interview I took of nana for a term paper that I wrote two years ago.

“Time went on, the option came – (because my institution was controlled by Delhi) any setup that was controlled by Delhi had the option: You want to stay in India or whether you want to go to Pakistan or If you want to go to Pakistan Provisionally, that is to go and come back in some time. But all of us said that we are going to Pakistan finally...”

He told his family that a ship was leaving for Karachi and he had to go. His family discouraged him and refused to go with him, hoping he wouldn’t go without them. Yet after a month of fighting with them he bought a ticket and landed in Karachi in September 1947.

FOMO & Social Media Envy in the 21st century

Somehow no matter what we do, we’re just not as good as that other person on Instagram. 🍃

I feel that social media can be very detrimental to one's self esteem.

It’s extremely hard sometimes to scroll through your feed and see all the interesting things people are doing with their lives.

Some people are living their best life, excelling in their careers, traveling, sky diving, getting promotions, looking flawless in makeup, wearing the best clothes, driving the fastest car, partying with the right crowd. I can go on and on.

But most people don’t live your average instagrammers life. For instance,

They don’t wake up feeling or looking beautiful.

They don’t have a new outfit to wear, or skills to style an old outfit differently in.

Their eyeliner still isn’t on point even in 2019!!

Their lunch wasn’t ‘instagram worthy’

And they most definitely don’t have the luxury to take their own pictures in the ‘golden hour’ because they work 9-6, 5 days a week.

I know most of my examples are restricted to a gender because that’s where I can talk more realistically from.

But these are extremely difficult times to live in because you are not only fearing what you’re missing out on, but you’re also getting sucked into the terrible social media envy paradigm.

It isn’t horrible In it of itself that your friends are living their best life, but on top of that everyone on your social media feed including the few role models you have are doing some cool shit with their lives, which in your head you’ll never be able to do. And suddenly you suffocate on the boring atrocity that is your every day existence. You are experiencing a fear that you have made the wrong choices on how to spend your life, so you spend even more time obsessing over what other people are doing with theirs.

While the fear haunts you throughout the day, Social media envy doesn’t let you sleep at night because the more you look at the life that another person has, you constantly feel like you have to compare yourself to them. All of a sudden you NEED that fancy wedding too, or that exotic vacation.

And while the line between needs and wants gets blurred, it’s just a downward spiral of anxiety and unease.

I have been suffering from it and I still don’t know how to come out it even though on the surface, I live that Instagram life. But somehow no matter what we do, we’re just not as good as that other person on Instagram.

No matter what.

I wish more people spoke about what really happens behind the curated feed and beautiful pictures so that the fear of missing out and social media envy can be controlled before it kills us all inside.
